We return to Halifax with a programme featuring Vaughan Williams, Piazzolla and Grieg, alongside the premiere of a new arrangement of Malcolm Arnold’s English Dances, performed with musicians from the Calderdale Music Youth Ensemble.
The Close Encounters Summer Concert is part of the English Chamber Orchestra's education and community programme. This free concert is in association with the Musicus Society from Hong Kong. We are delighted to be part of Proms at the Lake: One Hundred Years of Nature, a major open-air celebration marking the centenary of Shibden Park and bringing together professional artists, community performers and audiences from across Calderdale.
We are joined by violinist Harriet Mackenzie for a candlelit programme at Trinity College Chapel centred around Vivaldi's Winter from The Four Seasons. Alongside this iconic concerto, the programme explores some of the most lyrical and evocative works in the string orchestra repertoire, including Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending and John Eccles' Aire from The Mad Lover's Suite.
