Lights Camera Score (LCS)

Conceived by Dan Newell and Gregory Boardman, the award-winning Lights Camera Score (LCS) generates interest in the arts, music and creativity by connecting classroom and curriculum-based activity with the routine cultural experiences of film, computer games and television. Working with some of the nation’s finest musicians and young composers, participants from Key Stage Two through to Key Stage Five create stories and scripts for bespoke animated films. These stories and narratives are animated by industry professionals whilst our project teams initiate long term courses with schools and communitygroups to compose and perform the musical soundtracks that will help bring the films to life.

The LCS project has been crafted to break-down barriers delivering to instrumentalists and non-instrumentalists. Programmes of activity explore story, musical development, instruments, musical composition and how music relates to the music as experienced. Recenteditions of the project have had measurable impacts in relation to whole class and whole year instrumental ensemble playing.

With over one-hundred projects delivered nationwide, our Lights Camera Score 'Seeds of Hope' projects have been delivered under the Patronage of UK National Commission for UNESCO. Whilst the digital output provides schools with contemporary tools to engagewith their communities, opportunities for young participants to perform alongside the orchestra form an integral aspect of the schemes.
