We perform in concert halls and on international stages, record for albums and screen, and collaborate with soloists, composers, conductors, promoters, producers, venues and cultural institutions. Yet our purpose extends far beyond performance. Through Close Encounters and its flagship initiative, Lights, Camera, Score, children and young people create original stories, music and films alongside professional musicians, educators and award-winning creatives. For many, it is a first encounter with a live orchestra; for others, it becomes a new way to express ideas, build confidence and discover that classical music belongs to them.
Our commitment to the next generation extends from first encounter to first professional opportunity. We are developing new pathways for emerging conductors, composers, performers and artistic leaders through mentoring, commissions, competitions and opportunities to create and perform alongside the Orchestra.
We are also strengthening the voice of our musicians through musician-led advisory groups and committees, ensuring that the people who bring the ECO’s music to life help shape its artistic development, programmes, partnerships and future.
