Our work is not confined to one format, one setting or one kind of audience. We bring together the right musicians, repertoire and creative expertise for each brief—responding with the flexibility of a chamber orchestra and the artistic authority of an internationally recognised institution
Every project begins with purpose: interpreting a great work, creating an original score, elevating a significant occasion, supporting a powerful story, reaching a new audience or bringing an entirely new musical idea to life.
Our next-generation work follows the same principle. Access should lead to participation, participation should create confidence, and opportunity should allow talent to progress. Through Close Encounters, children and communities encounter and create music with professional musicians. Through the emerging pathways we are building, young conductors, composers, performers and artistic leaders will be able to develop their craft, gain professional experience and contribute new voices to the future of chamber music.
Our artistic and charitable activities form one connected ecosystem. Earned income from performances, recordings and commissions, together with donations, patronage, sponsorship and institutional support, helps sustain exceptional musicianship, create new work, widen access and invest in future generations.
This breadth allows the ECO to serve many ambitions without losing sight of its purpose.A promoter or festival can bring exceptional live music to a public audience. A composer, filmmaker, producer or video-game studio can give a story its emotional and musical world. A private host, institution or company can transform an important occasion into a memorable cultural experience. A donor, foundation or patron can help open new doors for young people and emerging artists. A corporate partner can align culture with education, youth opportunity, community investment and corporate social responsibility.
These are not separate roles. Every concert, recording, commission, donation, sponsorship and partnership strengthens one living ecosystem: exceptional musicians creating work of the highest quality while helping music reach people and places it might not otherwise reach.
