The Lark Ascending at Trinity College Chapel

10 September, 2026 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

venue

Trinity College Chapel, Cambridge

We are delighted to welcome violinist Harriet Mackenzie to Trinity College Chapel for a programme celebrating some of the most atmospheric and enduring works for violin and strings.

At its heart is Vivaldi’s Winter from The Four Seasons—a vivid musical portrait of icy landscapes, biting winds and moments of extraordinary stillness. Harriet Mackenzie brings her acclaimed artistry to this much-loved concerto, revealing both its virtuosity and its remarkable expressive depth.

The programme also features Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, one of the most cherished works in the British repertoire. Its soaring violin lines and luminous orchestral textures evoke a sense of openness, tranquillity and quiet reflection. John Eccles’ elegant Aire from The Mad Lover’s Suite provides a striking contrast, offering music of simplicity and poise that has captivated audiences for more than three centuries.

Performed in the intimate surroundings of Trinity College Chapel, this programme brings together music that spans the Baroque and twentieth century, united by its warmth, lyricism and enduring appeal. It is an opportunity to experience these remarkable works in one of Cambridge’s most beautiful historic settings, performed by Harriet Mackenzie and the English Chamber Orchestra.
