Join us for a special evening of music at Halifax Minster, featuring violinist Ofer Falk and students from North Halifax Grammar. The programme includes Vaughan Williams’ English Folk Song Suite, Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, Holst’s St Paul’s Suite, and The Lark Ascending (arranged Gerigk).
The Lark Ascending is one of the most beloved pieces in classical music, capturing the flight of a lark over the English countryside. This is the first time the ECO will perform at Halifax Minster and this project is the culmination of two years work in the Calderdale area, delivering work in local schools and encouraging young people to make music.
Halifax Minster offers a stunning setting, with warm acoustics thanks to its wooden ceiling, and has hosted everything from folk legends to leading brass and choral ensembles. The 15th-century, Grade I listed church is rich in history and beauty, from its stained glass and box pews to ‘Mousey’ Thompson chairs and carved woodwork.
The concert will also include performances by students and community works created this year.
