On Tour: Elisabeth Leonskaja at the Maribor National Hall
Our tour with legendary pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja and conductor Marzena Diakun continues on 30 January at Dvorana Union in Maribor, bringing together three great composers in a programme filled with drama, virtuosity and Classical elegance.
We open with Haydn’s Symphony No. 44 in E minor, the Funeral Symphony. One of Haydn’s most striking symphonies, its dramatic intensity and expressive contrasts reveal a darker and more impassioned side to the composer.
Elisabeth Leonskaja then joins us for Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9 in E-flat major, K.271, the Jeunehomme Concerto. Written when Mozart was just 21, its brilliant piano writing and wonderfully expressive exchanges between soloist and orchestra make it one of the composer’s great early masterpieces.
Our evening in Maribor concludes with Schubert’s Symphony No. 5 in B-flat major. Graceful, lyrical and full of youthful vitality, the symphony pays homage to the Classical tradition while revealing the unmistakable musical voice that would come to define Schubert.
Continuing our journey together under the direction of Marzena Diakun, we look forward to sharing this exceptional programme with audiences at Dvorana Union.
