Music in Country Churches in Ross-on-Wye

The English Chamber Orchestra Wind Ensemble will perform at St Mary the Virgin, Ross-on-Wye, as part of the Music in Country Churches series. This concert offers a rare opportunity to hear some wonderful repertoire for wind ensemble, performed in the intimate and atmospheric setting of this beautiful parish church.

The programme opens with Beethoven’s Octet in E-flat major, Op. 103, an early work full of charm and youthful vitality, showcasing the composer’s gift for melodic invention and playful wit. It is followed by the Rondino in E-flat major, a graceful and lyrical miniature that highlights the elegant blend of timbres in the wind ensemble.

The evening concludes with Mozart’s Serenade No. 10 in B-flat major, K361 ‘Gran Partita’, a towering masterpiece for wind ensemble. Richly scored and emotionally expansive, the ‘Gran Partita’ is a work of extraordinary beauty, blending grandeur with intimacy, and brilliance with tenderness.
