IWM Reflections: 9/11

5 September, 2026 @ 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm

venue

Imperial War Museum, London

As part of our Close Encounters programme, we are honoured to partner with Imperial War Museums for IWM Reflections: 9/11, marking twenty-five years since the events of 11 September 2001.

Our string quartet will perform Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings in the museum’s Atrium. One of the most moving works in the string quartet repertoire, it became closely associated with remembrance in the days following the attacks and was performed around the world, including at the BBC Proms on 15 September 2001.

This special performance offers visitors a quiet moment to pause, listen and reflect, remembering those affected by 9/11, their families, and the profound and lasting impact of the attacks on communities around the world.

Through our Close Encounters programme, we bring live chamber music into a wide range of settings, creating meaningful connections between audiences, places and music. We are proud to contribute to this poignant act of remembrance at Imperial War Museum.
