Serenades for Strings at Sheffield City Hall

26 March, 2026 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

venue

Sheffield City Hall, Sheffield

Stephanie Gonley, Leader of the English Chamber Orchestra since 1991, brings her experience and dedication to this exquisite all-string programme. 50 years after his death, Britten’s creativity is brilliantly captured in his vibrant Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, a vivid tribute to his revered teacher and mentor.

The rest of the programme celebrates three timeless serenades, opening with Elgar’s heartfelt work that radiates English pastoral charm. After the interval, relish a sparkling gem from the Swedish composer, Dag Wirén, whose playful Serenade is full of light-hearted moments. The concert concludes with Tchaikovsky’s sublime work, an homage to Mozart that combines lyrical grace with sweeping emotional depth. This is a stunning celebration of masterful string writing.
